ANTITUMOR ACTIVITY AND CYTOTOXICITY OF EXTRACTS OF GREEN TEA SEED

Abstract

|
-Abstract-
The antitumor activity and cytotoxicity of green tea seed extracts on cultured human
oral epitheloid carcinoma cells and NIH 3T3 fibroblast were evaluated by tetrazolium
MTT assay and SRB assay. The light inverted microscopic study was carried out to
observe morphological changes of both cells.
The results were as follows;
1. Water and n-Butanol extracts showed a significant antitumor activity and cytotoxicity
2. Chloroform and Hexane extracts showed low antiumor activity and cytotoxicity, but
antitumor activity showed stronger than cytotoxicity in MTT assay
3. The number of cells was significantly decreased and morphological changes in cell
type was observed in n-Butanol and water extracts
